‘PICK A POPE’- not as helpful as it may seem.

I do not trust the media, at all. When I came across this post which is obviously meant to stir up controversy regarding the candidates ‘profiles’, I was immediately dubious. Take a look and make up your own mind.

Below is a sample introduction at the Guardian’s site for the candidate below:

Josip BozanićJosip Bozanic
Age 63

Country Croatia

Outlook Conservative

Career Pastoral
The cardinal, who is the archbishop of Zagreb, served as chancellor and as vicar general of the Curia of Krk. He was lecturer in dogmatic theology and canon law at the Theological Institute of Rijeka and served as vice-president of the Council of European Bishops Conferences from 2001 until 2011. In 2002, when the UN war crimes tribunal in the Hague demanded the extradition of a former army chief indicted for war crimes against Serb civilians and wounded soldiers in 1993, Bozanić urged the country to unite in the face of the external pressure. He was created a cardinal by Cardinal by John Paul II on 21 October 2003.
What follows is the same for each of the candidates, albeit slightly altered descriptors,in the case of conservative candidates. My comments in italics.
  • believes in contraception to prevent the spread of disease (I don’t see this as being ‘conservative’at all. It’s against Church teaching! Would definitely not be my choice . Perhaps this point would sway voters in a political election?)
  • is open to dialogue with other faiths (Really, s this really something that’s on the top of the priority list for the Cardinals?)
  • is not facing questions over any abuse scandals (probably would put a spoke in the wheel with regard to being elected as Pope)
  • is not facing questions over the handling of the Vatileaks scandal (How does the Guardian know this fact?)

The more I think about the impending changes facing the Church , the more I pray for someone who has similar outlooks on the Faith as our beloved Pope Emeritus!
